As promised, I took some pictures of my finished Colette patterns Sencha blouse. I made View C, with the keyhole neckline.
I'm pretty happy with it, although the sizing was a little weird for my body type. If I make it again, I want to adjust the upper bodice - it was just so broad. The sleeve length seemed disproportionately long on the larger size (see how it looks on me compared to the pattern drawing?) and even though I seriously chopped off about an inch and a half, they still seemed too big/large. I'll have to mess with redrafting and taking in the shoulder and see if that helps it. but all in all, not too bad. It's not necessarily the most flattering blouse for me ever created, but I like the vintage style. The tucks on the front are nice.
I read several reviews from women who had made this pattern before, and they all said they wished they had lined the back placket with fusible interfacing, so I made sure to do that. I'm glad I did. I used a lightweight printed voile that I got from the warehouse at work, and I bet anything it would be sagging at the button closures if I hadn't used the interfacing, so that was one good decision.
I am proud of myself for doing a little entreduex and lace edging on the sleeves! And I've also got to say, how did I ever sew anything in the past without an edgestitching foot? It has changed my life.
So that's that. I feel weird sewing clothing for myself right now, what with a baby bump on the way, but at least it's good practice!
Yeah!
ReplyDeleteThat is really beautiful! I love the fabric and the edging on the sleeves just is really wonderful. I bet it was fun using your new machine for this!
