Happy Halloween! Friday Links

Happy Halloweeeeeeeen!!! We had a party at work yesterday, which was a lot of fun, and I'm planning on carving a pumpkin or two after work today. We're having some friends over tonight for a costume party and I'm pretty excited about that, too. I don't know if I've ever posted pictures of this, but I made my sister an embellished felt Halloween countdown calendar, inspired by a similar reproduction Christmas Advent calendar that she made for me. The whole thing is hand-sewn with sequins and beads. I gave it to her for Christmas a few years ago - started it with intentions of getting it to her by Halloween that year, but ended up finishing it on Christmas Day. Haha!

My sister is a huge Halloween fan and she always has the most fantastic decorations. I've tried to make some stuff for her to add to her displays for a few years and it always makes me feel good that she puts them out! She's also started collecting a Department 56 Halloween village that I loooove.

Okay, on with the links.

Why I Am Voting for Barack Obama @ Radical Congruency
Okay, I'm going out a limb by posting this, because I don't generally get political here on my rinky dink little blog. But I wanted to share this because I think this little essay sums up very eloquently my feelings on this election. I think we hear too much of the radical ends of what everyone believes in, but this is where I stand and how I feel, and I think the author did a pretty great job of expressing that in an even-keel way. Additionally, I'll say that when you get down to it, I honestly think John McCain is a good man and although I don't think he is the right choice for our country at this time, I respect him. Most importantly, though, is that we all go vote for SOMETHING we believe in on Tuesday. Vote for your congressmen, vote for your president. GO VOTE!!!

"Initially, I just loved the idea of an actual guide that motivates people to craft together for the simple pleasure of having fun and connecting with one another. Creating community through crafting is one of my mantras." Agreed!

Last year's Handmade Holidays was what got me hooked on Sew, Mama, Sew! I am so excited about this year.

DIY: Monogrammed Leaves @ Once Wed
These are really cool! You could do the same thing on autumn leaves and it would be really pretty. Or spell something out and make a garland, maybe on bay leaves for Christmas.

  1. Thanks for posting the Obama link. I read it and loved it. I've been going back and forth (and back and forth and back and forth) about who to vote for, and I've finally decided on Obama. I wish all political bloggers were as clear-headed and fair as Radical Congruency (and you!).
